Although exciting, managing your own construction projects can be a lot more stressful than you might have imagined. Planning permission will normally kick off your list of problems – neighbours and local inhabitants will be sure to try and slow down the progression of your work. Then you need to find a construction team you can rely on. With a recession biting further and further into our pockets, you need to find workers that offer you good value on their high price tag – ideally they should offer solid results in a quick timeframe. However, one of the most important, yet often overlooked aspects of construction is the hiring of scaffolding.

With so many other things to consider scaffolding is often put to the back of a person’s mind yet it is an aspect that holds within it great importance. From awareness in health and safety to environmentally concerns, you need a scaffolding company that offer more than just a solid structure. With a recession still forever present you’re going to need find one with the right price too. My advice would be to search for a company in your local area – they will be empathetic to your construction plans and could potentially be known by your neighbours or friends. Perfect for getting a reliable and detailed review of their service! Still not convinced? Consider the benefits of hiring a local scaffolding company listed below:

A personable service: Unlike their corporate rivals, local scaffolding companies will more than likely offer you a more personal service. As one of the company’s few projects you can rest assured their setup team will put all their focus on you and your plans.

Locally knowledgeable: A successful scaffolding company is one that prides itself on a strong awareness of health and safety risks – especially those regarding the public. A local company will know the area that you live in and will have dealt with buildings, streets and constructions in relation to your project. This local knowledge offers an enhanced level of public security as the team use their past knowledge to both erect and take down your scaffolding.

Safety first: A smaller local company relies on every client for business survival. Unlike corporate giants these companies take priority over every job they do. A lapse in public security could destroy their companies reputation – and with the credit crunch still among us that is something that they cannot afford. Due to this, local companies are more likely to offer extreme weather checks, security barriers, structure checks and a tidy work policy. These added extras could prove vital to the health and safety of your project.

When looking for scaffolding company in your local area you should be sure to search for testimonials on company websites. A detailed customer review will offer you an insightful look into how the company operates and what sort of service you can expect for your money. About <b>Scaffolding</b> Towers in the UK | Flood Damage

Posted on 29. Nov, 2010 by admin in Uncategorized

Scaffolding towers are well-favoured parts of construction and DIY equipment all around the UK. Regardless of whether you are constructing a mansion or painting a wall, a movable scaffold tower is basically significant. Here’s some information concerning these vital objects.

What is Meant by a Scaffolding Tower?

A scaffolding tower is an choice to a ladder for performing at height. Scaffolding towers offer considerable security and functionality in instances whereas ladders aren’t the suitable alternative. Despite the fact that not as quick to convey and store as ladders, scaffolding towers are stronger and give you large platforms that will support several climbers, along with tools and resources. Scaffold towers are applied whenever the task is too major for a ladder but too little for a traditional scaffold system. Because of their mobility, scaffolding towers are especially well-liked with contractors, tradesmen and DIYers the same.

When to Use a Scaffolding Tower

Nearly any work that needs a ladder would profit from a scaffold tower, especially one containing castors for immovability. For tasks like fixing or putting in gutters and fascias, a scaffold tower is perfect. A scaffold tower is quick to convey and provides gain to a bigger work spot, for painting, for illustration. The castors lock steadily for security when the scaffold is in place. Whilst most scaffolding towers are created from steel, it’s also feasible to come up with light aluminium types. Fibreglass is yet another popular substance for scaffold towers, yet again, because of its lighter weight. The lighter the tower, the easier it is to move about, a characteristic that’s important at job sites in which repeated relocation is required.

 More Concerning Scaffolding Towers

Scaffolding towers supply more versatility when measured up to either ladders or static scaffold set-ups. One major edge of scaffolding towers is their price, both when hired or acquired. Furthermore, owning your personal scaffolding tower takes care of the need to retain the services of a contractor to erect and take down static scaffolds. For extra worth, invest in a previously owned in place of a fresh new tower. It is key to abide by security practices when setting up a scaffold tower. At the onset, be sure to perform a site survey to decide whether the area on which the tower will probably be set up is sturdy, even and can be stable with the considerable load of the tower. Never employ boards or bricks under a scaffold tower to attain additional height. Outside, don’t affix sheeting to a scaffold tower simply because high winds could possibly make the tower unstable.

 Components of Scaffolding Towers

The basic essentials of scaffolding towers are tubes, couplers and boards. If produced from steel, the tubes generally are galvanised to resist rust and corrosion. Wooden boards comprise the platform. Couplers link the tubes to each other and come in numerous types to afford maximum flexibility when putting together a tower, for instance right angle couplers, putlog couplers and sleeve couplers. The wooden platform hooks to the tower with hooks or nails. Platforms designed from steel and aluminium also are obtainable and well-favoured simply because they tend to be more long lasting than wood.

Scaffolding towers are a versatile and substitute for ladders in the UK, especially for extended length projects

Scaffold Tubes

It is often used in any project that requires work at high levels, so scaffolding can even be used on your home if you need work done above the first level of your home. Generally scaffolding is constructed with pipes that are metal, or with bamboos even in some cases.

Metal pipes, also known as scaffolding tubes are the material of choice, particularly if the site of the construction is extremely high. This is the safest and most reliable method of scaffolding tubes and thus is the most commonly used. Bamboo scaffolding tubes are still used today, but are primarily used and most popular in many Asian countries, as this material is easily available and cost effective for Eastern contractors. Whether your scaffolding tubes are metal or bamboo however, the main objective of scaffolding tubes is that they ensure a safe working environment for those that you hire to do your job.

Tube and clam scaffolding, or simply scaffolding tubes with clams are popular everywhere. These devise are extremely versatile and are used with sets of metal scaffolding tubes that are attached with metal clamps. The vertical scaffolding tubes will be connected to horizontal scaffolding tubes through the use of right angle metal clamps. Diagonal scaffolding tubes are then used to connect the scaffolding via swivel metal clamps as a means of securing and stabilizing the entire scaffolding tubes structure.

Four essential components comprise the scaffolding tubes system. These will be your scaffolding tubes which will be vertical, horizontal, and diagonal scaffolding tubes. The other three components in a scaffolding tubes system are right angle metal clamps, swivel metal clamps, and the base plates for the entire scaffolding tubes system. The base plates are the structures that the workers for the job will be standing and working on as they go up the scaffolding tubes system.

This kind of scaffolding tube system is the most commonly used when the contractor requires unlimited versatility. The reason for this is that the horizontal scaffolding tubes can be placed at virtually any height alongside the vertical scaffolding tube. Vertical scaffolding tubes are also known as legs, and these can be spaced any distance apart, up to and including the maximum distance set by engineering standards. While the tube and clamp scaffolding tube system is extremely versatile, it is also the most labor intensive, and as such, is often only used when versatility is a priority to all other issues on the job site.

Defective Construction - Protect Yourself

Contractors can protect themselves from defective construction claims by hiring license and insured professionals to perform the work. Because most sub-contractors obtain future work through word of mouth, there is a built in incentive for contractors to police themselves and correct substandard work before it can negatively impact a project.

Some contractors provide an express warranty for work performed. While this express warranty may put homeowners mind at ease, in reality, a contractor remains responsible for any construction defects which are not determinable at the conclusion of construction.

In Florida, an owner may bring a claim against a contractor for latent defects up to ten years after the completion of construction. For example, upon the completion of an owner's new dream home the owner inspects the home and finds nothing out of the ordinary.

The owner moves in and after living in the home for nine years a water spot appears on a bathroom wall. Inspection of the cause determines that a defective solder in a bathroom pipe has allowed water to slowly seep into the wall and cause extensive water damage.

The owner may bring a claim against the contractor for a latent defect provided that the sub-standard work is the cause of the damage. The contractor can then seek to have the sub-contractor and its insurance cover any defect actually proven.

It is important to remember that while the owner has ten years from the completion of the work within which to bring claim, the owner must also bring the claim within five years of discovering a problem.

For example, in our previous discussion of the leaky pipe: if the owner noticed water stains on the wall in year one, but ignores it until year nine believing the source of the problem to be a leaky roof, which the contractor fixed, the five year period within which to bring a claim against the contractor will most likely have run.

The five year period begins to run at the time the water stain is discovered, not at the time the cause of the water stain is determined. Owner knowledge of the problem is a factual issue, which will depend upon each individual case.

As a result, if a subcontractor or contractor is faced with a claim for defective construction, legal counsel should be retained immediately to protect your rights.

What To Expect From <b>Scaffolding</b> Training Courses « Stylish Fashion <b>...</b>

A while ago a friend of mine landed a major and lucrative contract to construct a series of towers for government communications operations across the country. While he was thrilled at the prospect of the financial and business benefits attendant on this contract he had one immediate and pressing concern: none of his workers had received the necessary accredited scaffolding training and he needed to make sure that they all received this scaffolding training as a matter of some urgency. He could have looked for staff who had received the required scaffolding training but he had a loyal and trusted workforce and he wanted them to enjoy the benefits of his first major contract as well, but obviously without in any way placing them at risk. Knowing that I was taking a brief sabbatical from other training work at the time, my friend asked me to please help him to identify institutions in South Africa that provided top notch scaffolding training that would give him the peace of mind that both his workers and his business would be protected.

Despite legislation that compels construction companies and others that make any use of scaffolding in the running of their daily operations to provide the correct scaffolding training for their workers, there seems to be a plethora of companies that do not take scaffolding training seriously. At the same time there is a rather worrying shortage of companies in South Africa that provide fully accredited and appropriate scaffolding training, making it difficult for companies that want to both comply and look after their workers to do the right thing. Scaffolding is dangerous work and the moral and ethical imperative for training your workers is clear and indisputable. Besides this, companies can face serious penalties and losses if they do not comply with the legislation, particularly in the tragic event of a worker fatality, and therefore, despite the shortage of scaffolding training facilities, there is no excuse for not ensuring that workers are fully trained and protected.

After much searching I found a few companies that specialized in scaffolding training and identified a few courses that I thought would be useful and appropriate. One training course in general scaffolding work seemed to me be essential for anyone that would be working on a construction on which any scaffolding was being used. It included the following elements: the identification of scaffolding components and their different uses; the safe working loads of the different components; how to identify non-conforming material; the identification, inspection and correct issue of personal protective equipment; learning about the correct ways to handle material and the various methods of stacking, maintaining and storing it; studying the different methods that can used to lift scaffolding equipment; and training in the preparation of scaffolding foundations.

Given the risks involved in scaffolding work a scaffolding training course such as this seems like a small investment to make in the interests of workers and employers. It will protect not only the safety of the workers but the reputation of the company.

Using Safety Measures with <b>Scaffolding</b> Towers

November 26th, 2010 Posted in Tools and Equipment

Scaffolding Towers: Comprehending Good Practices

Scaffolding towers are routine in certain places in which work crews need to be in high locations for extended time periods. Most of the time, a tower will be more sturdy than a ladder and the tower will provide a secure working platform which will hold more workers than one. If it is accurately set up, scaffolding towers expedite construction and maintenance projects.

Scaffolding Towers – Safe Erection and Use of Scaffolding Towers

Before you set up a scaffolding tower, the proposals of the product makers or suppliers need to be directly followed. As a matter of fact, nobody except skilled and capable workers should attempt to raise scaffolding towers. Many scaffold tower parts will be colour coded or contain different textures to show if they are vertical, horizontal or diagonal constituents. It’s important to heed the colour coding or textures or the security of the structure might be questionable. The terrain needs to be solid and smooth and the all parts of the tower should be in great shape, spotless, dry and without flaws. Each portion should be examined for faults and sections that are bent or twisted should be replaced. When the tower’s base includes castors, be certain that they are firmly locked before you begin setting up the tower.

Scaffolding Towers – More Safety Instructions

This tower ought to be supported with something that deters it from twisting or falling down and to distribute loads accurately. Implement this ratio to conclude the association between the smallest base size and the height of the work platform and the base: no higher than 1:3 for external use and not more than 1:3.5 for internal use. It’s critically important to adhere to this standard, unless the tower is secured by another means like being fixed to a permanent structure. The ratio can be extended by using outriggers. An outrigger is a triangular shaped bracket which is fixed tightly to the base of the scaffolding tower. The outrigger serves to increase the scaffold’s base width, which, as a result, amplify the tower’s overall steadiness. Outriggers need to be extended to maximum capacity at all times.

Scaffolding Towers – Safe Scaffolding Tower Use Rules

If the scaffolding tower stands freely, the height shouldn’t be more than 9.75m (30ft). Secured scaffold towers (fastened securely to another immovable structure) should be no more than 12m (40ft) high. For the security of the construction crew, a stable access method ought to be put on the most slender side of the tower. Secure access methods could include inside stairways, internal vertical ladders or by sections of the ladder which are fixed into the design of the tower’s framework. There should be no conditions under which the workers should climb up on a part of the tower not designed for that reason. Working platforms should have trapdoors for safe accessibility. Every work platform should be totally boarded and completely supported. Further precautions include toe boards, mid rails and also guard rails. A toe board is an elevated lip around the perimeter of the scaffold. A midrail runs halfway between the railing and planking which is on a platform. A guard rail is typically at waist height and and assists in averting falls, either of supplies or instruments of workers. All workers should get off of a movable scaffold tower before it is moved. Furthermore, you should never erect ladders or stepladders on any section of a scaffolding tower to gain additional working height.

Scaffolding towers, when used safely, are important components of any construction or maintenance project.

Concerning <b>Scaffolding</b> Towers in the UK

Scaffolding towers are the favoured alternative for performing at height for prolonged periods. More trusted than ladders, scaffolding towers supply stable platforms for workers, their tools and materials. Scaffolding towers are accessible in a range of proportions and materials. Below is some essential info regarding the different sorts of scaffolding towers presently used in the UK.

 About Steel Scaffolding Towers

These are probably the most widespread type of scaffolding towers and are preferred for heavy duty tasks. Steel scaffold towers are quite stable and durable and have the positive aspect of being fairly inexpensive. Steel scaffolding towers are commonly used in construction and renovation jobs where it is obligatory to work at height for extended durations. Even when made with casters, steel scaffold towers may be complicated to move because of their weight. Additionally, steel is vulnerable to rust and decomposition, so employing steel scaffold towers outside for extended periods can be an issue. Normally, the steel tubing utilised in scaffold towers is galvanised to defend against decomposition.

 Aluminium Scaffolding Towers

Scaffolding towers designed of aluminium are light weight and easy to put up and take down. This enables them to be perfect for job sites in which the tower is required to be repositioned often. Aluminium would not rust or deteriorate the way steel would, which makes aluminium scaffolding towers great for outdoor use. Aluminium towers usually tend to be more pricey than steel, but they are easier to move around and deal with. One positive aspect of aluminium is its flexibility, meaning that it will bend instead of break when subjected to pressure, making it a more secure selection.

 Concerning Fibreglass Scaffolding Towers

If working in close proximity to electrical power sources, fibreglass scaffolding towers are favoured. As opposed to steel and aluminium, fibreglass doesn’t conduct electricity, which renders the tower safe as well as highly efficient. Fibreglass also is really lasting and quite light in weight. Fibreglass towers typically are far more high-priced than either steel or aluminium towers. Fibreglass doesn’t rust or decompose.

 Setting Up Scaffolding Towers

Irregardless of material, all scaffold towers are erected by the usage of couplers that tightly join the tubes that make up the structure. You can purchase three forms of couplers: swivel, right angle as well as putlog. Right angle couplers join portions of tubing at 90-degree angles. Swivel couplers allow the tubes to be joined at any angle. Putlog couplers execute the important task of securing the scaffolding tower to the wall or even the side of a building. There additionally are sleeve couplers plus joint pins that join tubes vertically. The vertical constituents of a scaffolding tower are referred to as standards and are used to share out the mass of the construction safely to the ground down below. Base plates plus sole boards in addition help to distribute weight and secure the tower. The horizontal members of a scaffolding tower are regarded as ledgers and fasten to the standards with the use of right angle couplers. The ledgers act as the supports for the scaffold itself, which might be built from wood or aluminium. Lastly, the structure is cross-braced using diagonal supports which give strength and firmness.

Whether steel, aluminium or fibreglass, scaffolding towers are beneficial pieces of construction gear in the UK.

Pull-ups on <b>Scaffolding</b> Bars in New York City | Al Kavadlo

Many believe the pull-up to be a sign of true athletic ability. Adding pull-ups to your training regimen doesn’t involve any fancy equipment because they use your own body weight for resistance. Brothers Danny and Al Kavadlo take the traditional pull-up to a whole new level in this short video promoting non-gym exercise.

It’s clear that pull-ups work out the biceps and triceps, but did you know that they also condition the shoulder, back and abdominal muscles? Regular pull-ups (you know, the kind that don’t involve circus theatrics!) can be extremely difficult, but the physical benefits far outweigh the challenge. Benefits include:

Greater upper body strengthGreater core strengthGreater enduranceImproved posture and balance

Pull-ups should be added to any athlete’s or fitness buff’s regimen, but due to safety concerns, I highly discourage you from trying a scaffolding workout of your own at home!

I don’t recall very many people from my high school gym class that were able to do more than one or two pull-ups. A lot of otherwise fit athletes can’t even do them, simply because they’ve never taken the time to train properly. To get started on your journey to pull-up success read The Hard Road to the Unassisted Pull-up.

The IT Trader » A Guide to Safety in <b>Scaffolding</b>

Basic checks that you could make to minimise any risks include:

* Checking the floor conditions. E.g. Could be the foundation firm, rather than soft? If london scaffolding is erected on frozen ground, this might melt and commence to sink.

Would be the * scaffold level and supported on proper adjustable stands.

* If this is a rolling scaffold, will be the castors locked?

Just about any scaffolding will be able to support approximately four times its intended load.

* The platform will likely need to be complete tailgate to cab and side to side. Any planking or decking cannot have gaps above 25mm (1%u201D).

* Toe boards and guardrails must be positioned on all open sides.

* All sections of scaffolding have to be secured or pinned appropriately.

* Safe entry to the scaffolding have to be provided which no pun intend have to climb over cross bracing. This is often a properly secured ladder.

Your * front face of any scaffolding needs to be 350mm (14%u201D) from the workface.

* Electrical wires have to be given the proper electrical safety clearance.

* All scaffolding have to be inspected by a competent person before getting used.

* In the event the scaffolding is over 3m (10%u2019) high, personal fall protection must be provided or the scaffold needs to have handrails over 950mm (38%u201D) high.

* Anyone working near the scaffolding or about the scaffolding must wear a hard hat (in the united kingdom it can be compulsory to supply head protection/ hard hats on any site).

Why <b>scaffolding</b> is necessary in construction jobs | Free Ezine <b>...</b>

Scaffolding is a structure that supports the building to be made while it is being constructed. This formation is made up of beams and bars that are higher than 12 feet and linked with each other using Joint Pins and other combining components. The simplest type of scaffold looks like a very tall ladder that can be moved around the room on wheels. In fact, many a times, people mistake these for ladders. But scaffolds used in construction of buildings are quite complex, since they are used for support buildings that have more than 100 floors. These Scaffolding WA structures are extremely large in size when built completely and stored in huge warehouses even when they are dismantled.

For construction purposes, having a scaffold is very important, but buying it is not possible for every real estate developer. Such firms avail the renting services of companies that provide the staging equipment on lease. The organizations engineer a structure made up by temporarily joining together Stainless Steel Scaffolding Tubes on the construction site itself. Apart from supporting the building being developed from falling apart, the scaffold keeps the labor force safe and provides them a safe platform where they can work without any risks. Of course, Scaffolding WA can be dangerous due to the heights that they have, but after proper training and basic common sense, all accidents can be avoided.

Any kind of repair and construction work calls for this type of staging structure, since it saves time and reduces labor costs considerably, all the while ensuring the safety of the building and the workforce. The firms that lease out these scaffolding WA arrangements offer the clients the following variants:

• Independent (Birdcage) – It has a number of vertical poles (standards) which are joined with each other using ledgers and Joint Pins and are suitable for work on one floor only

• Single Pole – This has one row of poles and is supported mutually by the edifice it is propped against

• Cantilever – Affixed at one end only, its adjoining figure or configuration holds it up

• Hanging Bracket – this is an intricate skeleton of Stainless Steel Scaffolding Tubes that are placed horizontally (along the floors) within the premises of an adjacent building

• Swingstage – This is most functional type of staging configuration. It is joined like its counterparts but can be lowered as per the requirements of the job being done

These Scaffolding WA items are essential for commissioning a construction job safely in any place and at any time.

<b>Scaffolding</b> contract spurs skills development | Product Sourcing <b>...</b>

Insulation contractor Kaefer has been awarded a contract by local construction contractor Murray & Roberts to erect scaffolding during the construction of State-owned power utility Eskom’s Medupi coal-fired power station.

Kaefer MD George Wardrope says that, in line with government’s Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa (Asgisa), and included as part of the scaffolding contract’s stipulations, 126 employees are to undergo training to meet the Asgisa requirements.

Training is done on site and candidates will receive Construction Education and Training Authority-approved scaffolding certificates, which will help them to take their ?proven skills to other jobs in the future. ?“We also intend to employ black women on site to assist with the scaffolding. It is a great opportunity to empower women to gain skills and perform work that was previously mostly ?reserved for men,” he says.?

Kaefer’s Power Projects business unit manager Martin Kruger says that it is impossible to estimate the total amount of scaffolding which will be required at the site at this stage, but that it could be up to 6 000 t at the peak of the contract. ?It will involve erecting scaffolding from the ground up, as well as suspending hanging scaffold from the structure itself at heights of up to 100 m.

He expects that the amount of erected scaffolding will reach its peak during the final phase of the project, when electrical and ?instrumentation technicians and other artisans need to gain access to the structure. ?The largest obstacle to be overcome is the challenge of getting all the material on site for the erection of the scaffolding.

Kruger says that the power ?station’s coal-fired boilers are in excess of 110 m high and a lift shaft has already been constructed to a height of 119 m for the installation of a permanent lift. Next to the lift is a 100-m-high emergency stairway, connecting five levels.

The scaffolding contract is ?expected to extend to the end of 2014, when the last generator unit is to be commissioned. Kruger adds that Kaefer has all the resources necessary to ?honour the contract and will not use labour brokers for additional ?labour.

“We prefer to use our own permanent staff and, where necessary, hire ?labour on a contract basis. This gives the ?labourers a greater degree of job security and allows us to train them,” he says.

However, Kaefer Energy Projects marketing manager Glenn Barry points out that, owing to the HIV/Aids pandemic, the company has to manage its workers carefully. ?He says that, with a contract spanning three years to four years, such as the Medupi project, and with the large numbers of transient labour mostly staying in single-sex ?accommodation camps, HIV/Aids will be a major threat to the wellbeing of the workforce. ?To this end, Kaefer established its HIV/Aids relief programme, known as Karp, in 2005, to educate and manage infected employees.

Barry believes that up to 25% of all ?employees on the project could be HIV positive. “Through Karp, HIV positive employees are provided with comprehensive treatment and care packages and there is a site office at the Medupi construction site to help ?administer the programme to employees,” he concludes.

What To Expect From <b>Scaffolding</b> Training Courses | The Name Badge <b>...</b>

We have all driven past a construction site and seen workers precariously perched on scaffolding swaying in the wind and held our breath on their behalf. And anyone who lives in Johannesburg has marvelled at the complex scaffolding that has marked the landscape since the construction of the Gautrain began in earnest. But how many of us have even wondered how many people get the necessary training to erect and work with scaffolding? I had never really thought about it too much until last month when a friend of mine who owns a construction company landed a huge contract but needed to send his workers for scaffolding training before they would be able to work on the project. He asked me to help him find out how and where he could send them for top quality scaffolding training and I willingly agreed to help as I was in between contracts at the time and I had a training background, which I thought might come in useful, although I knew virtually nothing about scaffolding.

After doing a little bit of research I learned very quickly that there seems to be a dire shortage of both scaffolding workers that have undergone the appropriate training and of scaffolding training facilities that focus on this field across the country. A lot of major construction companies bring in a scaffolding training expert or company from abroad to train their workers on site, but this is obviously a very costly option. I also, during this research, read of numerous accidents on building sites and infrastructure projects that have been caused by workers not having been given the correct scaffolding training, suggesting that this is a serious shortcoming in the market. Scaffolding is an intrinsically high risk occupation and to send workers out without the necessary training is not only unethical, but highly dangerous. Further, there is legislation in place to regulate scaffolding practices, and companies that fail to provide workers with the correct training could face some serious penalties especially in the event of a death in the course of duty where the company is unable to prove that the correct and accredited scaffolding training was provided to the deceased.

I managed to find a few institutions that specialize in scaffolding training and, besides a very good introductory course that should be completed by anyone who even works in the vicinity of scaffolding, there are two courses that provide training in the erection and dismantling of scaffolding that seem to cover all the necessary elements. The first course teaches people how to build and dismantle an independent tied scaffold; a putlog scaffold; a static and mobile tower; a birdcage scaffold; a system scaffold; an interlocking frame scaffold; a protective fan; and a rubbish chute. At the next level of training in building and dismantling scaffolding people are taught how to interpret drawings; all about height restrictions, classifications, usage and safety factors; as well as design and calculations requirements for access scaffolding. In additon traiining is given in building and dismantling a pavement gantry; a circular scaffold; a cantilever platform; an aluminium tower;; a bridge scaffold; a hanging scaffold; and a barrow ramp.

Given the risks involved in scaffolding work a scaffolding training course such as this seems like a small investment to make in the interests of workers and employers. It will protect not only the safety of the workers but the reputation of the company.

<b>Scaffolding</b> for narratives — the power of the gutter – Patrick <b>...</b>

November 22, 2010 8:45 AM

In college, my friend Josh spent hours with comics. Ten years later, his time investment hasn't changed. But how he's investing that time has.

Josh (Elder) runs Reading with Pictures, a nonprofit using comics for building literacy. His arguments for such education are persuasive and innovative, so much so that he was among the speakers at this year's Cusp Conference. The conference in Chicago, as I've noted before in this blog, is the most awesome conference I can't afford to attend.

Here in his Cusp presentation, Josh makes some great points about learning "in the gutter" — the space in between a comic's panels — and about visuals providing "narrative scaffolding" for a story's text.

As much as I enjoyed the ideas in Slate's "21st Century Classroom" crowdsourcing this fall, what Josh offers here feels just as valuable.

Not only will workers be safer, they will be empowered by their enhanced skills and, at the same time, your company will be protected from reputational damage that may ensue should you not ensure that they have the accredited scaffolding training they both need and deserve.

Thieves Steal <b>Scaffolding</b> From Argyle Church - Local News on wokv.com

It's the Grinch who stole scaffolding in Argyle Forrest.

The Church of Argyle rents 35 feet of scaffolding every year so they can put on a holiday concert series.

They started putting together the scaffolding Friday, but when they came back yesterday they noticed part of it had been stolen.

The Pastor of the church tells our news partner Channel 4 he's prepared to forgive the thief.

"We're not angry. It hurts a little bit, but the God we serve is the God of grace and forgiveness".

The theft leaves the church on the hook for $3,000.

Very Best Reasons To Own <b>Scaffolding</b> As A Substitute For Renting

Here I will talk about why you should purchase scaffolding. If you are presently working on projects that require you to use scaffolding and you are therefore needing to rent it or even borrow it this article is going to enable you to appreciate some great benefits of purchasing it.

Initially let us speak about the availability of aluminum scaffolding. If you buy scaffolding, you can get it whenever needed. Regardless if you are renting or borrowing it you understand it might not often be available if you need it. It may not be available much or there may not be sufficient pieces ready in order to carry out work.

Then will come the price which can be spent in rental verses owning. Those numerous payments from renting can result in adding several times what you would pay for it should you buy used scaffolding. It will probably really tie up funds for long periods of your time. This can be money that you may use to spend for expanding your small business as well as other operating expenses.

Yet another thing to take into account may be, for anybody who is leasing or just borrowing scaffolding, there will be limitations about how far off you may travel with it. If you often do jobs that take a person out of state or on the road for a long period of time, you might not be allowed to take the local rental scaffolding far off. You can even have to come in every week or each thirty day period for making a payment on the contract.

All I have mentioned here may help you to definitely buy scaffolding confidently and avoid losing earnings from leasing it. You will see some great benefits of owning equipment and the ways by which it helps your business.

Top Tips On Keeping Safe On <b>Scaffolding</b> by Jon Lane

by Jon Lane(35)
http://www.thewowfactory.co.uk

Scaffolding is a central part of many construction projects as it offers a solid and safe place from which to carry out work at heights. Ladders are one thing; they give you easy access to heights, but when you are working for long amounts of time, a ladder isn't always the safest or most productive method. This article will give you tips on how best to work on scaffolding.

The first thing is the set up. Really and truly, you should get a professional team to erect the scaffolding before you start work, but if you are doing a small job at home you can do it yourself. A professional company will be registered to carry out work and will have a team of competent, experienced and trained individuals.

If you can't get a professional scaffolding team to come in, follow these basic rules:

First, ensure the base is on solid, even ground. If the ground is soft then there is the risk of it sinking, which could then lead to a collapse which risks injury. You must also take the time to make sure your scaffolding is supported on all sides by adjustable stands. In the case of rolling scaffolding, you must ensure your castors are locked. A final point to bear in mind when setting up a structure is that it should be able to hold four times the intended weight.

Before using the scaffolding, it must be complete on all sides, with no gaps in the floor. This is a no-brainer, because if you have large holes in the decking, you will probably fall through. In addition, open sides (not butt-up to the wall) should have toe guards and guard rails so that you don't run the risk of falling overboard. All pieces should be fixed together properly.

Safe access to scaffolding is a must. Instead of climbing over the guard rail to get on to the structure, you shouls have a set of steps or a secured ladder. When working with electrical wires, you will require an electrical safety clearance. Likewise, if you are working more than three metres from the ground you should be given suitable fall protection in the form of a safety harness. Hand rails should be placed at least 38 inches from the base and head protection is an essential piece of PPE for everyone working below, or in the vicinity of, the scaffolding.

When scaffolding is not in use, tools and equipment should be removed to avoid the risk of falling debris. In high winds or adverse weather conditions you should refrain from working at height. Workers should be off rolling structures when they are moved.

Jon enjoys working at heights on site and firmly believes that scaffold training is an essential part of any building site health and safety work ethic.

Okinawa Karatedo &amp; Kobudo: <b>Scaffolding</b>

Kata is often referred to as the heart of Karatedo. Many teachers will go so far as to say that if there is no kata, then there is no Karatedo. For me. kata is like constructing a building. When you construct a building you put up scaffolding, but when construction is finished you remove it. You don't keep it up. Similarly, when you cross a river, you need a boat to get to the other side, but once there you discard the boat - you do not carry it with you. Therefore we can think of the scaffolding and the boat as kata, which encompass the techniques, and teaching method of Karatedo. In the end, they disappear. BUT you do not destroy them. That would be quite selfish as others need the scaffolding or boat to build their own building or to cross the river.

Construction Litigation Help

Construction industry is wide service sector that requires different contractors to serve in different capacities this may include; electricians, plumbers, floor guys, cabinet guys, and handymen. To be able to choose the best contractor for your project it's recommended you ask for help from a construction litigation attorney. A good attorney will help you choose a contractor who they believe can deliver and have vast track record in finishing his duties as required by the law.

It's imperatively very wrong for a professional construction litigation attorney to refer or accord his friends favor by praising his worthiness yet he has been involved with dubious activities. It professional to refer your clients to contractor; with visible track record in doing business in this industry.

Other than that, there are several factors that any construction litigation attorney should consider before referring any contractor to their clients, that is; attorney should always scrutinize any contractor to know for how long he has been in this industry, that is; his achievements in field, his relationship with the business community around him, since its very hard for him to do shoddy jobs within the area of residence and the most important how long has he been in the construction industry. Sometimes it's also very important to check the type of license and accolades he has, this will enable you to give correct and meaningful advice to clients.

There are many licenses that contractors are required by the law to have one of them is commercial general liability insurance, its very important to have this insurance cover to posses, it ensures personal injuries and property damage at the place of work is catered for no matter the magnitude of the injury or damage. You should always think of workers and other properties around your project to avoid construction litigation processes which might increase you construction budget tremendously; the law requires every contractor comply with the minimum state and contractor's licensing law requirements. Over the year several contractors have overlooked or failed unknowingly failed to leave out the important consumer protection provisions like mechanic's lien notices, insurance clauses, three-day right to cancel requirements, and similar provisions. It's therefore recommended that before you refer a contractor, let them submit to you a sample contract agreement such that your client has an opportunity to review it with counsel should they so choose that particular contractor.

The financial base of any contractor is the pivot to being given the contract, it's therefore important for a contractor to submit his business financial account details i.e. balance sheet or a trial balance, if you overlook this issue you may end up being sued or your project being halted. With a qualified construction litigation attorney you can be able to choose and verify all business practices of any contractor.
