According to news reports, a civilian construction worker was fatally injured after he fell nearly 45-feet from scaffolding on Nov. 24, 2010. The fatal scaffolding accident occurred at a barracks building at the corner of 49th Street and E. Avenue in Fort Lee, Va.
Army officials commented that the 40-year-old construction worker was a contract worker from Manning Construction. Construction officials and investigators are looking into this fatal construction accident but it's currently unknown what caused the man to fall. Officials told the media that the man was in fact wearing a safety harness while working on the scaffolding.
Reports detail that emergency crews arrived at the construction site within six minutes after being called and found that the fallen scaffolding worker still had a weak pulse. A military ambulance transported the injured man to John Randolph Memorial Hospital, where attending doctors pronounced the man dead.
Following the fatal scaffolding accident, the Construction Company and local authorities launched a full investigation into the incident to determine how the man fell from the scaffolding while working. It was not reported if the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) would join the investigation of this workplace-related accident.
Currently, no charges have been filed in this scaffolding accident case and the family of the victim have not filed any civil suits against the man's employer or owner of the site.
