Poultry House Construction - 3 Things Any Good Plan Must Have

Poultry house construction can be an overwhelming task to accomplish if you do not have the right plans. You can have a hard time building it and, even worse, you could build one that would not keep your chickens safe, healthy, and could be really hard to keep clean.

If done right, you will have a great hen house that will have hens producing many good eggs and will be a project you and your family can enjoy for years to come.

There are three major things you need to think about when looking to build a backyard chicken coop:

1. Keeping the flock safe from other animals. A stray dog, raccoons, foxes and coyotes pose a threat to your flock, and sometimes will dig their way in. Birds such as hawks and owls come in from above. You have to look at ways that these animals will try to get in and prevent them from doing so.

2. Making sure that the poultry is protected from your local weather conditions. Most folks readily think of insulating to keep the birds warm and ventilating to keep them cool during hot weather, but you have to also consider things like wind, shade, and rainfall.

3. Building the hen house so that it is low maintenance and easy to clean is a must. Having the walls, nesting areas, windows, and floors made so that they are easy to keep clean will help your hens to be a lot healthier. Also take into consideration waste removal. This can be a chore if the house is not constructed with an easy way to remove it.

When you find a good plan that takes these three things into consideration, you will be well on your way to constructing a poultry house that is healthy and productive for years.
